No, Blondie, it is called "The Battle Hymne of the Republic" which begins, "Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the lord..." and has a chorus which repeats the words, "Glory, glory, hallelujah..."

I saw and heard something in a Kingdom hall I thought I would never witness!
by HowTheBibleWasCreated inwhen i was a kid i would hear religious songs on tv and start sining them... not knowing they were church songs... one day i started singing the hallelujah song (not sure the exact name of the song) my father quickly gave me a hard slap on the mouth and said if i ever sang that song again he would take his belt off and beat my butt until it was red!.
well fast forward 30 years..... the public speaker was missing today and so tv.jw>org to the rescue.... instead they decided to play the new video about the last hundred years since 1914.. instantly the hall was filled with the exact same song i was punished for!
yes a church song filled the hall for almost 5 minutes as we watch br.

Welcome BigD and thank you for sharing.... It is a hard and cruel awakening when you are older, my husband is 68 & and I am in my 50's.... So looking back is very ..... well very much a lot of things. :(
We too, had doubts, but pulled them back in, assuming that "God's Organization" was always the best way to follow.... but some things just could never really be squared away. Like, blood fractions?? Really?? Yet you were still not supposed to store your own blood?? And the heavenly, angelic trumpet blasts in the book of Revelation being Resolutions made at certain assemblies back in the 1920's (these same resolutions that no one remembers or mentions?)
And why did we not do more for widows and orphans if that was form of worship which God approved?
Why did the "load" one carried in the congregation never feel refreshing and light?
Have you read Crisis of Conscience? I'm almost afraid to recommend it to you, as it might make you plenty angry. But it was written by a former member of the governing body, and he was in his 60's too when kicked out.... He spent most of his life thinking he was serving the true God, even forfeiting having children with his wife. Oh boy, does he ever have some things to say, all documented. I read it with tears pouring down my face and have never felt so betrayed.
A friend of mine says she believes we are all put here "to learn something" and that the religion must have given me something I needed in life. So I try to remember the best and good things about it, but then I also think of the high price and the things we can never gain back or recover, and I too feel very angry. And dumb. But stuff like that can hold us back from moving forward.
Be gentle and take your time with your wife.... Keep reading, keep listening... and do not blame yourself for the path your life has taken, your parents really thought, as we all did, that we truly had the best way of life.

Interesting that ch 5 tells you to return to ... "the overseer of your souls."
-- the OVERSEER! Yeah, being in bondage & slavery to *them* is just so appealing!

JW.org Lapel Pins for I.D. ?
by ShirleyW intoday was the first time i've seen a bro wearing a jw.
org lapel pin, actually much, much larger than an actual lapel pin.
square shaped, the background was olive green but the letters were white in bold letters.

Whatever happened to "walking by FAITH, not by sight..."? That was the reason JWs wouldn't wear a cross (or, in their case, a "torture stake", ha) and why they looked down at people in Christendom for having a visible symbol of their faith.
Someone should design a JW-dot-org pin that shows the Israelites worshipping the golden calf, only the calf should be the JW-org symbol. LOL. I would wear that one!

This Week's Service Meeting
by berrygerry in"or perhaps there is an adult brother who is restricted from conducting the meeting or offering congregation prayer for reasons known by the elders.
without revealing confidential information, the elders should let the assigned sisters know that they should conduct and pray even if he is in attendance.".
too funny..

Muddy Waters
Well now. Are they perhaps having a little problem with too few brothers conducting meetings for field service? Are there many sisters conducting these meetings, then? Are there so many brothers "on restrictions" that this may be a common occurrence? Why all this detailed instruction? Oh, those bad boys. Good thing they know how to deal with the sisters and keep them in their place....

Hair trigger - awesome.
(CompoundComplex... You are joking, yes? Converting to Mormonism?)
-- it makes me wonder, in the depths of my soul looking over the parched land, that a vision should come... a burning bush.... No, already been done.... Some golden plates...? Already done...but wait! Behold a man, no, an angel! - bearing golden tablets, and he claims to have the truth!
Hm. Nope. Can't do it, lol.

Those darned apostates
by berrygerry injuly 15, 1992 wt.
"apostates capitalize on errors or seeming mistakes made by brothers who take the lead.
our safety lies in avoiding apostate propaganda as though it were poison, which in fact it is.".

And how they can come up with a term "present truth" is also mind-boggling. So Orwellian. -

Remember this scripture: kindly yoke, light load, refreshment for your soul...
by Muddy Waters inmatthew 11:28-30 "come to me, all you who are toiling and loaded down, and i will refresh you.
29 take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for i am mild-tempered and lowly in heart, and you will find refreshment for yourselves.
30 for my yoke is kindly, and my load is light.. do you remember this scripture?

omg, lovely comments, thank you, would like to address them personally...
but YES, - stuckinarut2, all those things you mentioned:
- 12 hours of service every month,
- be at every meeting,
- answer at least twice,
- bring studies,
- conduct family worship,
- do personal study of the organization's publications,
- not associate with non-witnesses...
...
(and I will add some here! So fun!)
- cleaning/repairing/buying/selling/renovating Kingdom Halls,
- counting all your field service hours & literature placement$ (but nowhere on that slip is a spot to say that you placed an actual BIBLE!);
- and don't be involved in any other charity or good work except the placement of WT literature & the building of KHs & huge branch facilities! - which are the only and best and most wonderful acts of charity and kindness there ever could be -- all those silly things like helping needy or destitute people by giving them food, clothing or shelter produces only scavenging, useless "rice Christians" who could never appreciate the awesomeness of the tracts and those flimsy magazines! -- and which are the only and most awesome thing needed today in these momentous(TM) times.
(Excuse me while I choke).
Because of course Jesus said all these things.
Jesus clearly commanded or told us to do all those things mentioned above --
- (and even more! Oh, oh! So exciting!) - I just thought of the wonderful and blessed gift of the special elder's-only book -- (even though we are all one and are united and have no leader) --
It is quite clear that Jesus -- or, excuse me, Jehovah himself said all those things, or Jehovah through Jesus -- told us that we need to do all those things.
It is all clearly laid out for us in the Bible (while keeping our load light and refreshing...)
It is all stated very clearly for us in the Bible at... uhhhh... In the bible book of.... Well, you know. Those very important words that Jesus said were also surely referenced quite clearly in those visions claimed by John, in some really wild Revelations to all those letters to those troubled congregations. Yes, we can read all about that counsel to the congregations. Please turn with me to Revelation.... (Ha! Did you notice my clever bait-and-switch? The red herring? The non-sequiturs? The wiggle and squirm and saying something else totally off topic and attempting to induce guilt at the same time? (Jesus' words turning into 'counsel'!) bah!!!
... Must ... Come ... Back ... To... Reality....
Whew. Hasn't this been refreshing...?*gag*
